XRAY Wins Round 2 of Swiss Championship in Schaffhausen, Switzerland
The second round of the Swiss Nats took place last weekend in Schaffhausen Switzerland. The event attracted 48 drivers from across Switzerland and neighboring Germany. This was a true breath of fresh air for the Touring car scene at a Swiss national level.

The AMCS track is such a fun track, and has its unique charm. The drivers stand is not located in the usual manner and is located on the left corner of the track. The layer of asphalt has been laid down years ago, and the track shows signs of having married with earth movements, which adds to the fun of finding a perfect setup, for a slightly bumpy and unlevel surface. The traction level was very low and had a layer of pollen, which also added a factor of complication to the matter.
Team Xray was well represented in all categories. In modified class Marco Kauffmann took the TQ (TQ’d all rounds) and won all three rounds of the finals. In Formula 1 class, it was Fabio Marzini that TQ’d the qualifiers and was able to win the first two rounds of the finals, therefore claiming the overall victory.

Round 1 of GeMC Series 2018 – Hosted by Geneva Model Cars Club

The first round of the GeMC series took place on Saturday 5 May 2018, and attracted 45 participants. Drivers from the Geneva region as well as Suisse Romande and neighboring France joined for this first round. Even the Swiss-German side was represented by one driver, who came all the way to enjoy the day amongst R/C enthusiasts.

The particularity of the GeMC track is its banana curved ‘straight away’, but most importantly the club imposes a no additive philosophy. To ensure the grip levels stayed at a good threshold, the track was sugared in the evening of Friday and also on Saturday morning. The GeMC team chose a small but fun layout!
The lap times witnessed were in the low 10 seconds for the fast guys and very low 12 seconds for the formula 1 drivers.

Team Xray cars were the most present throughout both categories.

The one-off racing car “Eldridge”, derived from the old Fiat SB4 chassis, became known as Mephistofele for the infernal noise emitted by its powerful aircraft 6-cylinders in-line engine, giving a capacity over 20,000 cm3, not attenuated by exhaust mufflers kept “free” to provide the most significant performance. On 12th July 1924 in Arpajon, the Mefistofele, was able to reach, driven by its pilot and designer Ernest Eldrige, the amazing speed, for the time, of 146,01 miles per hour (over 230 Km/h) and broke the World Land Speed Record achieving an impressive result. The Mefistofele, was characterized by the high back bodywork able to contain the powerful Fiat A-12 liquid-cooled engine and for its structure especially made to achieve the speed record.

1st Swiss National 2018 – Lostallo

1st Swiss National 2018 – Lostallo

The weather forecast for the weekend was bad. They announced rain for all the weekend.

Luckily Friday afternoon we could practice and I could run my new RX8 2018 for the first time, I was really impressed by the car’s performance and just with some little adjustments I could easily run below 20.5sec.

Saturday morning the sun was shining on the track and we could run the 3 controlled practices and 2 out of 4 qualifying rounds on a dry track. After this two rounds I was in 4th position behind Kurzbuch, Hächler and Martinelli (Xray).
We started the 3rd round on a dry track and I was really fast but after 2minutes the rain comes and we had to stop. We wait until the track was dry in order to repeat the round, but the track was slower. After that the rain comes another time and we stop the qualify.

Top5 after Qualify:
1. Kurzbuch
2. Hächler
3. Martinelli (XRAY)
4. Kerler
5. Pesenti (XRAY)

Sunday the forecast wasn’t clear but it was sure that the rain would come during the day. Unfortunately just before the start of my semifinal the rain comes and we switch to the “rain car”, I started really good and I was in 1st position but after 10minutes the car stopped. Unluckily the battery stop working!
I could start the B-Final on a dry track and I won it.

Congratulations to Luca Martinelli for his 3rd position behind the two Wolrds finalists Kurzbuch and Hächler.

Top5 after Final:
1. Kurzbuch
2. Hächler
3. Martinelli (XRAY)
4. Henzi M. (XRAY)
5. Krähemann

1. Marco Rizzo
2. Traugott Schär (XRAY)

The boss in the pit lane and biggest fan was the bird in the photo. He was here every day and had fun.

Many thanks to Mattia Pesenti for the race report and to Sue for the great pictures.
